Discord banner size: server, profile and server-profile banners

The exact dimensions Discord asks for in 2026 — 960 × 540 for server banners, 680 × 240 for profile banners, 600 × 240 for per-server profiles — plus file limits, GIF rules and how to crop locally.

Discord has three different “banners”, and they do not share a size. The server banner that sits at the top of the channel list is a 16:9 image of at least 960 × 540 pixels. The profile banner on your user card is a much wider strip of at least 680 × 240 pixels. Per-server profiles get their own banner at a minimum of 600 × 240. Uploading the wrong shape does not fail — Discord simply crops it, usually badly.

The safe approach is to prepare each image at the right aspect ratio before uploading, at double the minimum size so it stays crisp on high-density screens, and to keep any text away from the edges where Discord’s interface overlaps the banner.

Server banner: 960 × 540 at 16:9

The server banner appears at the top of the channel sidebar and on the server’s invite preview. Discord asks for at least 960 × 540 pixels in a 16:9 ratio and will resize a 1920 × 1080 upload automatically, so working at full HD is the simplest choice. Only the middle of the banner is reliably visible in the narrow sidebar — the server name is overlaid on the lower part — so keep logos and text centred and away from the bottom edge. Banners are a boost perk (Level 2), and an animated banner requires Level 3.

Profile banner: 680 × 240 minimum

The profile banner sits behind your avatar on the user popout and full profile. Discord requires a PNG, JPG or GIF of at least 680 × 240 pixels under 10 MB; a 1360 × 480 file keeps it sharp on Retina and high-DPI phones. The round avatar overlaps the lower-left of the banner and the display name appears just below it, so the lower-left quarter should be background only. Animated GIF banners are a Nitro feature; without Nitro the first frame is shown.

Server-profile banner and icons

Per-server profiles let you set a different avatar and banner for each server. The banner minimum here is 600 × 240 pixels (a 5:2 strip); again, upload at 2× for sharpness. Server icons and avatars are square — 512 × 512 is the practical upload size — and are displayed as circles, so keep the subject inside an imaginary circle and avoid corners.

Preparing the files locally

Open the crop tool, load your image and lock the aspect ratio: 16:9 for a server banner, 17:6 for a profile banner, 5:2 for a server-profile banner, 1:1 for an icon. Drag the frame over the part you want, export as PNG for flat graphics or JPG for photos, and check the file is under Discord’s limit. The whole process runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded to imagenimble.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Discord server banner?

At least 960 × 540 pixels in a 16:9 ratio. A 1920 × 1080 image is resized automatically and stays sharper on large screens.

What size is a Discord profile banner?

At least 680 × 240 pixels as PNG, JPG or GIF under 10 MB. Upload 1360 × 480 for a crisp result; animated GIFs require Nitro.

Why does my banner look cropped?

The upload had a different aspect ratio and Discord centre-cropped it. Crop to the exact ratio yourself before uploading and keep text away from the edges.

Can I use an animated banner?

Profile banners animate with Nitro; server banners animate at boost Level 3. Without those, the first frame of the GIF is shown.

Is my image uploaded to imagenimble?

No. Cropping runs inside your browser and the file never reaches a server.
